Craft Cannabis
Biggest Craft Cannabis Selection
Our management team at Canntina spends a lot of time and energy making sure that our menu has the widest selections of craft cannabis in BC. To provide a little more info on the process, we’ve put together an FAQ below:
What is the direct delivery program?
The craft cannabis products that we provide come directly from the craft suppliers through the direct delivery program. This program allows retailers in BC to order directly from craft suppliers and obtain products that are not available in any of the BC Cannabis Stores (online or in store), or available for order from the BCLDB. Both the BC Cannabis Store and other big name cannabis retailers only order from the BCLDB, so they won’t have the same selection of craft cannabis that you’ll see in Canntina.
Why are craft cannabis products from the direct delivery program better?
We wouldn’t say that craft cannabis products are better or worse than any other products. So much of why a customer likes a product comes down to taste and personal preference. That being said, craft products are more fresh, typically have a higher potency, contain a stronger smell and flavour, and are all made in BC by small batch producers who legally aren’t allowed to produce over a certain amount each year.
Why does it take so much time and energy to order direct delivery?
We have to reach out to each and every company supplying the craft cannabis products, register with them, get familiar with their unique ordering and billing processes, nurture relationships with the product reps to access the freshest products that typically sell out quickly, and create and process each purchase order manually in the POS (it’s automated ordering bulk wholesale from the BCLDB).
This process is required for every craft supplier that we order from, and Canntina regularly stocks 30+ of these craft cannabis brands to ensure an excellent selection for our customers.
Why do big name cannabis retailers not order direct delivery?
Big name cannabis retailers have so many stores that they are not able to allocate the resources needed to fill their shelves with product from the direct delivery program. It takes so much time from our staff to make these orders that these big name cannabis retail chains don’t want the cost of hiring people to take this job on and simply stock their shelves with what is available from the BCLDB.
Let’s draw a quick comparison to the liquor market by comparing a government run or publicly traded chain with a privately owned cold beer and wine store. You’ll find Molson Canadian and Budweiser in both stores, and these products will likely be a buck or two cheaper in the government or publicly owned stores, but the privately owned cold beer and wine stores will have a better selection of craft beers, local wines and small batch sprits. This is because the ordering process is similar to cannabis where you have to care about your menu enough to reach out directly to the supplier and put in all the time, work and love to make sure your shelves are stocked with a variety of rare and quality products.
I see craft products at big chain retailers and the BC Cannabis Store as well. So isn’t this in conflict with what you’re saying above?
If craft products perform extremely well in the direct delivery program, craft producers then list these products with the BCLDB for big name retailers and the BC Cannabis Store to purchase. A good example is when you see a craft product on the shelves in Costco. They have done so well in the artisanal markets that they were able to scale this product to a level where there was enough production to list with a big supplier.
These select few products that do make it to the BCLDB wholesale account for a tiny fraction of the BC craft cannabis market available to retailers in the direct delivery program.
We hope you’ve found this information on the direct delivery program and craft cannabis products helpful. Canntina would like to thank you for continuing to support the small batch craft cannabis market, from micro cultivator to privately owned retailer.
